Our Lady of Tepayec Elementary School, a school in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood, was the recent recipient of a Riot Fest Foundation grant to start an after-school music program for its students. The program will help students in grades 4 through 8 to develop an appreciation for music and foster creative development through hands-on learning.
To execute the program, Our Lady of Tepayec is working with Pulsebeat Music and its director, Jason Wolf, to bring beginner guitar to elementary students as an extracurricular activity. Pulsebeat Music does an excellent job in getting kids excited and eager to embark on what is often their first real experience with music.
In many schools that face Our Lady of Tepayec Elementary’s financial reality, general music programs and other forms of arts programming and instruction have been reduced or eliminated completely. Now, they are able to offer a musical instrument instruction program to its students – all of which come from families whose average income is less than $20,000 per year.
We are thrilled that we are able to partner with Our Lady of Tepayec Elementary School to bring this music program to their students. This is just the beginning of the charitable work we plan to do in the communities surrounding Douglas Park in Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood. This program is one example of how we awaken passions and amplify dreams of today’s youth through creative development and arts education.
Thank you to all of our generous donors for helping to make this project a reality. We couldn’t have done it without you.
